Yesterday we went round Tony's parents' for an early birthday* barbecue and I made this cake! It is the kind of cake you'd expect for a birthday in Denmark (at least in my family).

It is layers of sponge cake (sort of), with slices of strawberries in between and decorated with whipped cream, more strawberries and Danish flags. In Denmark flags are used for celebrations in a non-patriotic way. They simply mean joy!

If this had been Denmark, I would simply have bought the actually sponge, but since this isn't Denmark, I had to make it myself. Which I've never done before, so I did have to talk to my mum a couple of times to make sure I got it right! But it turned out really well, and everyone liked the cake. Yay!

Oh and in case you're wondering, no I didn't run out of whipped cream, I left a bit without cream because Tony's mum doesn't like it. Aren't I nice? ;-)

I got a couple of presents (crafty books!), which I'll post more about later - they had to be opened, because Tony's nephew loves helping with the opening of presents! And he sang Happy Birthday to me and then he kept saying happy birthday to everyone else!! He is so funny!
