Home improvement

We have had the curtains in our bedroom since we moved in almost 5 years ago. They were given to us so not completely my taste. And they had faded quite a lot, so it was time for a change!

And this is it. Yeah, I forgot to take a before picture... The old curtains were blue but had faded so they looked almost lilac!

But the best part of getting new curtains, apart from the fabric, which we picked together (!), is that I made the curtains. Me! I have never made curtains before, so I am really relieved happy that they turned out so well. Sure, there are things I know to do a little differently next time, but you live and learn, right?

And not only are the curtains lined, but I also managed to get the pattern on each curtain to match up so they don't look wonky when pulled together.

It feels really good to be able to make something that most people would just go out and buy. It does! And you know what? It wasn't even that difficult, especially if you have the old curtains to look at.

Have you made your own curtains?

PS. The fabric was bought in Denmark, in Stof og Stil. It was on sale and it doesn't look like it is available anymore, unfortunately. Atleast not on their website. It is available in a different colourway though: Natur halvpanama m. træer.

I made a lined pair recently. I was really pleased with how they turned out. The ones that were up there before were so old and worn out that they actually split!

Oh, I know exactly what you mean! I made matching curtains for our kitchen... red checkered gingham print. And there were 3 windows total (one above the kitchen sink, one next to the dining table, one covering the front door). It took me forever and they were all different sizes, but when I was finished hanging them up I felt so proud of myself! Like hey, I could've went to a big box store and bought them and been done with it... but they're homemade and it looks exactly the way I want it! :) I really love the fabric you chose for your curtains. So pretty!
