Crochet hats for the Big Knit

Hey! These are the hats I've sent off to Innocent for their Big Knit campaign. The deadline was Oct. 15, but they have extended it until Friday next week, so you still have time if you want to make some hats! Mine are crocheted, but you can knit them too, of course.

I have written some instructions for making a basic hat (and how to add bunny ears), but unfortunately I haven't had time to do a proper tutorial with step-by-step pictures. I hope it makes sense anyway! ;-)

Address to send your hats to can be found here, along with some other info. Like how to knit a hat if that's your style. Make some hats, it's for a good cause! :-)

Please note these instructions use US crochet terminology. I have used a size 2.5mm hook and yarn appropriate for this size hook.

12 sc in magic ring, sl st closed

1. round
ch2, [2sc in next st, sc in next st] repeat all the way around, sc in last st, sl st closed.

2. round
ch2, [2sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 st] repeat all the way around, sc in last st, sl st closed.

3. round
ch2, sc in each st, sl st closed.

Repeat 3. round 6 more times.

Last round
ch2, sc in each st, but do 3 decreases (2sctog) evenly spaced in the round.

To add bunny ears
Make a slip knot, pull through in the third round from the centre and secure with sl st.
ch8, 2hdc in 3rd ch from hook.
2 hdc in next ch
2dc in next ch
2dc in next ch
2dc in next ch
1dc and 1hdc in next ch
2hdc in next ch
sc into the second round
pull threads through to inside of hat and bind off.

To add the other ear
Flip the hat so the back of it is facing you. Now make the ear in the same way as the first one.
