Reading: Little Katia

Little Katia - E M Almedingen
Have you read this book? 'Little Katia' by E. M. Almedingen. I read it many times when I was little. I think that it, along with the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, was probably among my favourite books. It is one of those books that just stay with you.

I have recently re-read it (I found a copy on AbeBooks which is a smashing place to find books that are otherwise hard to find) and it took me right back in time. And I realised that it has indeed stayed with me; and I absolutely remember identifying with the protagonist...

The book is based on the memoir by Almedingen's great aunt who was of minor nobility in 19th century Russia. Her mother died when she was 5 and 'Katia' was adopted by a cousin of her mother and grew up on a vast estate in the country. It is a lovely story! I think you should get yourself a copy and read it too!

I read several of Almedingen's books growing up and I think I may have to start a little collection of them and read them all...

Hi Carina, thanks for the recommendation. I haven't heard of that book. But anyone who loved Liitle House on the Prairie is a fine judge of a good book.
My all time favorite that I'm looking forward to reading to my daughter is "A Little Princess" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Have you read it? It's worth reading if you haven't.
