Four weeks...

The church
Four weeks ago we said goodbye to my Morfar (maternal grandfather).. it seems like just yesterday, and also like much, much longer ago. Strange.

Looking down from the organ
Tony and I climbed the narrow stairs to the church organ so I could take this picture of the flowers. They looked quite pretty I think. Notice how they go from only whites on the coffin, then gradually including more and more purple. Not sure who thought of that - my mum pointed it out to me. I thought it was nice..

Wreath next to the coffin

Mostly purple

Flowers on the grave
In the afternoon, after the wake, we went to see the grave with the flowers.

At the wake..
The wake was at a restaurant right by the water. See how close it is. It was raining quite heavily, but we could still see Hanklit - a tall cliff where I've been lots of times when visiting my grandparents on holiday. I thought it was quite fitting that we could look over there...

Emptying the flat
A couple of days later my mum and I went with a couple of my uncles to empty Morfar's flat. It's a strange thing to do. A whole life's possessions and they were dispersed... some to family members, some to recycling/charity and others were thrown away. Morfar was a heavy smoker so not everything was suitable to keep (smell/nicotine stains)...

Wanted this, but couldn't take it home
I thought this piece of furniture was really nice, but how do you get that on a Ryanair flight?!

Cushion...
This cushion cover was unfortunately too dirty and smelly.. otherwise I would have kept it - for the embroidery and for the memories - I remember it on my grandparents' sofa..

Almost empty...
Makes you a bit sad.. just a few traces left of someone living here.. A chair, a lamp... By now, someone else is probably living there.

A last look
A last look...

I'm so sorry for your loss. Grandparents are special and I'm glad you have the memories.
