Sewing the seeds of...

Sketchy stitches
This is some of my most important work: stitchy sketching. Trying different stitch combinations. Trying new stitches. Experimenting with new colours. Or old colours. Doesn't matter if it makes sense or looks pretty or will ever get used for anything. But it may just hold a tiny seed of inspiration for something that actually will be A Thing.

When you do creative work it is so so important to experiment and push your work. Otherwise you might get stuck in the same ol', same ol'. Which may work for a while, but will eventually lead to boredom or worse. And we don't want that!

Of course, the irony isn't lost on me that I'm always telling people to "just give [whatever] a go, don't worry about the outcome", when I'm actually a bit of a control freak..! Sketching things, planning them in my head, trying not to leave anything to chance. Despite knowing that it's in the mistakes and happen-stances that interesting things will happen.

I'm always trying to make things pretty, or functional. Or at least work the way I want. Trying to see patterns and logic even if there are none. Despite knowing that it's in the slightly chaotic and random that real beauty blossoms...

Am I the only one guilty of this? :-)
