Red letter C for DMC

Letter C in red blackwork
A little while ago, I wrote a post on the &Stitches blog about how you can stitch a letter (an initial) for a permanent exhibition about DMC at a museum in France. Well, I really love DMC and just *had* to make one. And since I spent most of last week in the company of a nasty cold, focusing on this letter was actually quite nice. I could pick it up and do a few stitches in between napping and coughing fits. Ugh, colds, boo!

There are only three rules for the letters, they must be on a piece of either white or off white fabric that is 15x15 cm (approx. 6" x 6") and you can only use the red DMC 321. The type of fabric and stitching was completely free. I decided to do my letter in red blackwork.

I did the letter 'C', coz I like it. ;-) And it's a fairly simple shape where I could add a wider section so the blackwork pattern could be seen properly. Blackwork is a counted technique, so you can't just cover things up and pretend like you meant something to look a bit messy. In blackwork it has to stick with the grid or it will show!

On the narrow sections, where you only see a fraction of the pattern, it was a bit difficult to make sure that everything was lined up properly. But I think I managed to do it in the end. I had to unpick and re-do a couple of sections of the pattern, I won't lie. ;-)

I am really, really pleased with the result! It turned out way better than I expected. Now I am just crossing my fingers that my 'C' will actually get to the museum in time. I sent it yesterday and it has to be there on Monday. Eep! Cutting it a bit close!

If you want to send your own letter, have a look here for the details. But you have to be really really quick to stitch it and send it off. :-)
