Using The Good Stuff

DS fabric curves
These quarter circles unintentionally ended up in a sort of colour wheel configuration. All those colours make me happy. :-)

I have been cutting into my Denyse Schmidt fabric stash collection in a big way recently. For one thing, it's getting kinda out of hand. Never thought I'd say that!

And I keep thinking that I'm saving those fabrics for a 'special project' but when is that project going to come along? How will I know which project is special enough to cut into my precious DS fabrics?

So I decided that this project is that special project. It is special exactly because I am using these fabrics. I made the project special, I'm not going to sit around waiting for some divine signal of project-specialness.

Thinking about this made me think of this post about 'spending out' from Gretchen Rubin. It's kinda sad to hoard these fabrics and never use them. We should use the 'good stuff', right?

  1. I have started to really make an effort to use the "good stuff" in all my sewing, even the stuff I sell...and I am loving every minute of it. :) Fabric buying for me is personal...I buy what I love. So parting with it can be hard sometimes, but it gets easier every time I do it. And it makes me think, in some ways, that I am giving little "gifts" to strangers in the form of beloved fabric. :) On another note, I love Denyse Schmidt. She is one of my fave designers (and I got to meet her this summer and spend a few days with her at a retreat she taught at it. She is as delightful as you would hope.) and I love the selection of fabrics you have here and the idea of deciding the project was "special" enough to use the good stuff. Looking forward to seeing it!
