Knitting mushroom

When we visited that old shop in Denmark, I got one of these. Strikkelise in Danish. Isn't it cute?

I've been knitting on it with baker's twine. Which, I have found, isn't ideal. Atleast not with the flimsy wooden 'needle'. Because the twine is a bit stiff it is a bit difficult to use. In fact, the tip of the needle broke!

I'm thinking using a crochet hook would be easier to use anyway. I do like the look of the twine 'rope'. Especially because the twine I buy in Denmark is more black than white, unlike a most of the twine I've seen on the interwebs.
